Rick's Rules for the Road
This portion of Cruisin is where Rick claims he knows more about driving than
anyone else on the planet! AND because of this he has taken some time to help
those who might feel less capable drivers by listing some of the rules he
follows while driving.
The intent is to force discussion of how we should drive and to provide a little
bit of humor towards our normal hectic rush hour foibles.
Construction Hazards
It seems that everyone is concerned about the safety of all those wonderful
people that tear up our roads. I suppose at some time they actually repair what
they have destroyed, but, since this occurs so seldom I won't discuss the
possibility at this time.
What I will discuss here is the concept of why people don't slow down for
construction. Contrary to the incorrect opinions of Cops and every other
government official the problem has absolutely NOTHING to do with drivers. The
problem is the fault of the construction workers themselves! Before you say
"You're Wrong!" you should consider why drivers ignore construction
signs. These stupid signs appear everywhere, at all times of day and night.
Since they are always there and more than two-thirds of the day (AT MOST) there
is NO construction work occurring then 66% of the time the signs are proclaiming
a lie.
Has anyone ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? Well, the construction workers,
thru never removing their signs, cry wolf to drivers all of the time. Why should
anyone be amazed that people ignore construction signs. The solution to this
entire problem is to fine the workers - not their companies - for failure to
remove the signs when there is no construction occurring. AND I mean FINE! None
of this wimpy $10 crap - how about ten hours checking to make sure others take
down the signs!
Speeding
What is the REAL purpose for writing speeding tickets? If it is to raise
money then fining people who speed is the correct action. However, if the
purpose is to SLOW down the driver then it is wrong. The correct punishment for
speeding should be to make the speeder wait around for far longer than they
could ever make up.
